My gratitude practice started about 30 years ago when I was writing down three or five things that I could find in my day that made me feel grateful. Little by little, my own practice and Inner connection to overcome the obstacles of not finding anything to be grateful for became my teaching method “How to develop a Gratitude Attitude.”
But today I want to only talk about adding mindful gratitude to your day to make it part of your daily spiritual routine.
Being grateful is appreciating something.
And no matter what kind of day you have, there is always something you can be grateful for. It can be something good that happened during the day, so you remember something that you appreciated earlier, or you appreciate it now with a delayed gratitude response, or you could just sit down and look all the things you like around you and be grateful for those things you already have and still see their value in your life today. That value you hold might have changed but if they are in your life, they hold a value you still can be grateful for, whether it is a negative or positive value.
Because something to be grateful can also be something you dislike that can bring negativity, because that generates a change you desire or a move you make to be better and feel better or do better, so those negativities are also things to be grateful for, because the value you gave them helped you or is helping you. The value of everything is the value you give and decided.
Being grateful and expressing your gratitude can help you change your psychic atmosphere energy. It is not just about “making you feel better”.
Gratitude has a high level of energy, and more often than not, someone starting to integrate gratitude or someone expressing gratitude more automatically tend to be grateful when their own energy is on a higher frequency level, which is what’s happening when you feel good about something so you can easily appreciate it, having a gratitude response.
But why wait only for those moments to be grateful?
Willingly making a list of gratitude can also help you uplift your energy. Well, not only ‘it can” but it will.
When you make a list of what you appreciate, you are telling the Universe, “Okay I am taking the time wanting to be totally mindful of what I have, no matter what it is, and I want to express my gratitude and thankfulness for the good in my life that I can see… and I want to thank you for that. I want to express it.” This is what being mindfully grateful means when you start to be grateful and express it.
I remember when I started being mindfully grateful more than 30 years ago, it was to express the goodness I could see in my life. When I first started to be mindfully grateful it was more because it was an exercise that was making me feel good and more connected to the Universe, to Source or God however you call that Higher Consciousness. It was also for me to appreciate my life the way it was when it was. It was for me to learn to appreciate more and to see how abundant I already was.
Now, it is another story, because I know that it is my Life Purpose to teach people how to develop a gratitude attitude, so to walk the talk, I have been learning to be grateful for everything, no matter what it is when it is through everything.
And for more than 30 years, it was my one best connection I was having with my Inner Self, with the Universe easily making me feel good, easily allowing me to be connected to the Universe, because when you list your gratitude, you are away from your negative thoughts. To me it is my spiritual mental health treatment.
You can do it mentally or you can write it down but commit yourself to add this to your spiritual well-being every day.
When you spend 5, 10 or 15 minutes a day listing things that you are grateful for, your mindset will shift for sure. Sometimes from very negative to less negative or neutral, and sometimes from negative to positive.
The shift happens when you continue listing your gratitude one by one in affirming “I am grateful for…”, “I am grateful for… “, so your ego-based mind cannot step in, and the more you step away from your ego- based thoughts, the better you feel, and the better you feel, the more you allow your Inner Self to be present with its pure positivity.
It does not matter whether you are doing it in the morning or before bedtime, but you can try a few different times in your day and see what fits better for you. Observe how it goes after to help you decide from your heart when it does fit better for you in your daily practice.
When I started, I was journaling my gratitude before bedtime, and later in the morning because I loved how it helped me start my day with a beautiful energy, and now it is pretty much all day long because I am grateful as things are happening in my day, but I do still sit down to make some gratitude lists once a while to shift my energy level.
So today, I am inviting you to start your gratitude practice, or renew with your gratitude practice, and do it every day from now on, even if you only have 5 minutes. Do it mentally when you remember you forgot to take the time to take the time.
Remember to Breathe in, let go of your ego-based thoughts and vision, see from your Soul and Love Out.
